Cholesterol management guidelines
High cholesterol can affect any one of us, even those who are relatively young and look and feel fit. As a guide, the National Heart Foundation of Australia recommends that all adults over the age of 453 have regular blood cholesterol testing. Adults who are under 45 years of age and who have other risk factors should also be tested regularly. The Heart Foundation in collaboration with the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand have published a set of guidelines for the management and treatment of high cholesterol. These guidelines help your doctor or other healthcare professional:
- Decide who should be tested for cholesterol
- Assess your risk for cardiovascular disease
- Determine your "target" cholesterol level
- Develop a treatment plan to help you reach your target cholesterol level
