It took a heart attack and a bypass before I was tested for high cholesterol. Not surprisingly, the results weren't good.
Despite competing in marathons, triathlons, and being a black belt in karate, I had a family history of high cholesterol, which was the reason I developed the condition. I had to make some changes to my diet, exercise more, and go on medication to bring my cholesterol down to a safe level.
My wife and I now work together to manage my cholesterol. She makes sure I eat the right food, exercise everyday and take my medication. She also reminds me not to be a 'doctorphobe' and to go get regular cholesterol tests to monitor my levels.

The only way you can really know whether your cholesterol is in control is to discuss with your doctor whether a cholesterol test is right for you.
